History

Nepean Township was established in 1792. In the 1950 and 1960s, Nepean's urban area began to expand into previously rural areas, like Centrepointe in the east and Barrhaven in the south. It was incorporated as a city on November 24, 1978, and amalgamated with the City of Ottawa in 2001.
