Family-Friendly Neighbourhoods
Ideal For
Family-living at its finest. Just west of downtown Ottawa, you'll find everything you need here. Green space, shopping and restaurants, and a lovely mix of modern subdivisions and classic neighbourhoods.
Best Features
If you are looking for homes with great value and access to green space, Nepean is an ideal option. Because it used to be an independent city, it has everything you need from parks to shopping to schools.
Considerations
You’ll find a lower cost of living in Nepean, but the tradeoff is a longer commute. By moving west of downtown, your drive could be over an hour on the Queensway during rush hour.
History
Nepean Township was established in 1792. In the 1950 and 1960s, Nepean's urban area began to expand into previously rural areas, like Centrepointe in the east and Barrhaven in the south. It was incorporated as a city on November 24, 1978, and amalgamated with the City of Ottawa in 2001.
